About Us
The purpose of the L.S.F.A.is to establish harmony and action in the cultivation of fraternal fellowship among its members, to secure protection for and to promote the best interest of Fire Service Personnel of Louisiana and to establish and conduct an organized training program for firefighters of Louisiana.
FACT: This Association is constantly working to promote the best interest of all firefighters in the state as to new legislative measures concerning firefighters, promoting better training, acquiring of new membership, exchanging ideas, keeping abreast with new training techniques, bringing in new programs and trying to establish harmony in the Fire Service.
The L.S.F.A. consists of more than 350 fire departments and over 12,000 members across Louisiana. The L.S.F.A. is open to all who belong to a fire department in Louisiana or has an interest in the fire service.

LSFA ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- L.S.F.A. sponsored a bill passed in 1914 giving a 1% refund on fire insurance premiums in Louisiana, which later doubled to 2%.
- Published the first manual of instruction for fire departments in Louisiana 1936.
- Created and conducted the first Louisiana Fire College at Baton Rouge in April of 1936.
- Assisted in creating a Civil Service Program for LA. Firefighters.
- > Assisted in creating the LSU Firemen Training Program in 1963 and helped redefine its mission by Act 528 of 1979.
- Assisted in the Supplemental Pay Program for Louisiana Firefighters.
- Sponsored a Louisiana Legislative bill for additional funding for LSU/FTP in 1970.
- Increased death benefits (in line of duty) to $1,000.00 in 1975, $2,000.00 in 1980, $5,000.00 in 1988, to $7,500.00 in 1995 and finally to $10,000 in 2001.
- Sponsored Act 641 of the Louisiana Legislature to increase Volunteer Firefighters Insurance Premium funds from $200,000.00 to $500,000.00. Bill was passed in 1996.
- Created two Fire Science scholarship funds of $500.00 each at LSU Eunice and Delgado College in 1993.
- Initiated "21st Century Fund" of $100.00 for VIP Program in 1996.
- Continued membership in National Volunteer Fire Council since January 1989.
- Assisted with the collection of donated funds and participated in the delivery ceremonies of the "Spirit of Louisiana" Fire Truck to the Citizens for New York at the White House in Washington DC and in New York City.
- Collected and distributed funds for Louisiana Firefighters who experienced the 2005 unprecedented hurricane destruction through the Louisiana State Firemen's Association Hurricane Katrina / Rita Fire Service Relief Fund. {mospagebreak title=Yearly Events}
The Louisiana State Firemen's Association (L.S.F.A.) annually sponsors events for members. To get the most out of these events you must take the first step and get involved.
• ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The L.S.F.A. annual conference, held in August, provides nationally known speakers and offers training sessions on current fire service issues. It also offers an opportunity for networking and meeting people and exchanging ideas and making new friends.
• EQUIPMENT SHOW
The latest state of the art fire and safety equipment is on display and manufacturers and distributors are on hand to answer questions and demonstrate their products. This annual event is held in Baton Rouge at LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute.
• FIREFIGHTERS FIELD DAY
A day is scheduled for teams of firefighters from across Louisiana to meet for Competitive Drills. The drills test the skills of the teams as well as set the stage for comradeship.
