Oldest Surviving LSFA Past President FM Smith Passes

Chief Frank Maxwell Smith of Bossier City, the oldest surviving LSFA Past President died Sunday; he was 93 years old.  FM Smith was Bossier City's first paid Fire Chief.

Chief Smith served the department from 1929, at the age of 13 as a volunteer and later joined the department as a firefighter when it became a paid agency in 1940.  He became Bossier City's first paid fire chief in 1950, a post he held until 1982. 

Chief Smith was elected as President of the Louisiana State Firemen's Association in 1960; he was the oldest of the 27 living Past Presidents. fmsmith.jpg
